SNAP in Missouri: How to Apply

Start at https://mydss.mo.gov/food-assistance/apply-for-snap - it holds the Apply Online button, a printable application in English and Spanish (needs Adobe Reader), and a way to ask for a paper form by mail. Submit a completed form online at https://mydssupload.mo.gov, by mail to Family Support Division, P.O. Box 2700, Jefferson City, MO 65102, or by fax to 573-526-9400. FSD calls you for the interview if one is required; a missed call can be fixed at a local FSD Resource Center or by calling 855-823-4908. Case status is checked in the FSD Benefit Portal.

You may be eligible if you live in Missouri; have (or agree to apply for) a Social Security number for everyone in the household; are under the current income limit; and own no more than $3,000 in resources, or $4,500 if a household member is over 60 or disabled. Resources do NOT count your home, vehicles, life insurance, burial plots or prepaid burials, non-income-producing personal property, savings and pension plans, Indian and Alaskan Native payments, or anything you cannot access. Anyone convicted after 22 August 1996 of a felony or a controlled-substance crime, or a fleeing felon violating probation or parole, may be barred for themselves.

(Divide by 12 for the monthly figure: 1 person is about $1,696 gross / $1,305 net a month.) the 5-person NET figure is printed as $32,160, identical to the 4-person one, which is almost certainly a typo on the state chart - the gross column rises normally. Do not repeat that number without checking the state's PDF. These are the figures Missouri publishes itself — we do not copy them from the federal table, because several states set a higher limit than the federal one and Alaska and Hawaii have their own entirely.

Not itemised on the apply page; the state points to a separate 'Verification Documents' page and to 'SNAP Medical Deductions for the Elderly & Disabled'. Section 2 of the application is what triggers the emergency (7-day) screening, so fill it in if you have little or no income.

Typically a decision within 30 days; the Family Support Division says processing the application and supporting documents can take up to 10 days, then a letter is mailed. 'In some emergency cases, you can get SNAP benefits in seven days or less' - complete Section 2 of the application to be screened for it. The EBT card arrives at your listed home address within 5-7 business days of approval.

Missouri is one of the plain 130%-gross states - no broad-based categorical eligibility - and it publishes limits ANNUALLY, not monthly, which is unusual and easy to misread. New work rules took effect 1 November 2025: 80 hours a month of work and/or training, with exemptions listed for a dependent under 14, under 18 or over 64, already working 30+ hours a week, physical or mental health reasons, TA work participation, caring for a child under 6 or a dependent adult, unemployment benefits, drug or alcohol treatment, school or training 20+ hours a week, pregnancy, circumstances beyond your control, and Indian / Urban Indian / California Indian status. Replacement of electronically stolen SNAP benefits ENDED 20 December 2024 - anything stolen after that date is not replaced. Disaster food-loss replacement must be requested within 10 days; a power cut for non-payment does not count. Mid-certification and annual recertification are both required.
