Can I go without insurance?
Yes. That is what these are for. Federally funded health centers must serve you whether or not you have insurance, and they charge on a sliding scale based on what you earn and how many people are in your household. If you cannot pay, they cannot turn you away for that — it is a condition of the federal funding they receive, not goodwill.
Is it a free clinic?
Not exactly, and the difference matters. A free clinic is usually volunteer-run, open a few hours a week, and often only for the uninsured. These are full health centers with staff, regular hours and their own phone number — and they take insurance too, including Medicaid and Medicare. What makes them different is the sliding scale: the price moves with your income instead of being fixed.
Do I have to prove anything?
They will ask about your income and household size, because that is what sets your fee. Requirements vary by centre, so call the number on the map before your first visit and ask what to bring — that one call saves the trip. We do not publish per-centre requirements here because they change and getting it wrong sends you back home.

The whole thing is HRSA's own file — the federal agency that funds these centres. Nothing here is compiled by hand or scraped from a directory: 19,114 sites, 1,521 organizations, 60 states and territories, downloaded on 2026-09-10 from data.hrsa.gov. We re-download it rather than edit it, so it stays the government's list and not our copy of it.
