How do I apply for SNAP in Oregon?
Apply online, by phone or in person at a local office. The state's own short link is https://benefits.oregon.gov (verified loading, it redirects to the ODHS benefits site); the SNAP page is https://www.oregon.gov/odhs/food/pages/snap.aspx and carries 'Log in to ONE' and 'Apply or renew'. Who qualifies for SNAP in Oregon?
People and families who live in Oregon, meet the income guidelines, and are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens. NO real asset test in practice: ODHS says 'your house, car or money in the bank don't usually count against your eligibility'. Work requirements apply to able-bodied adults aged 18-64 who are not caring for a child under 14 and do not meet an exemption - without an exemption they get SNAP for only three months in a three-year period. Students aged 18-49 enrolled more than half time need one of the listed conditions (20+ hours of work or self-employment, work study, TANF, unemployment compensation, employer-sponsored training, an Employment Department training program, a course of study leading to employment, caring for a child under 6, caring for a child 6-12 without adequate child care, or a single parent with a child under 12). Non-citizen categories are listed in detail (LPRs after 5 years or with 40 work quarters, under 18, blind/disabled, 65+ and legally resident on 22 Aug 1996, or with military service; Amerasians; certain American Indians born abroad; certain Hmong or Highland Laotian tribal members; Cuban/Haitian entrants; COFA citizens from Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and Palau). Refugees, asylees, withheld-deportation, Iraqi/Afghan SIV holders, certain Afghan and Ukrainian parolees and trafficking victims skip the 5-year wait. ODHS states plainly that SNAP does not count as public charge and will not affect immigration status or a green card.

ODHS calls this 'a general idea' and warns that other states' guidelines differ. These are well above the 130% FPL figures used by most states - Oregon uses broad-based categorical eligibility at 200% FPL - so do not compare them directly with a 130% state. Two Oregon-specific things worth surfacing. (1) The income table is stamped 'effective March 2026 through February 2027' - Oregon runs on its own annual cycle, not the federal 1 October one, so the figures are current but will not match a state quoting FY2026. (2) Adults 65+ in Clackamas, Columbia, Multnomah and Washington counties can take SNAP as direct deposit or a check instead of on an EBT card. Also: older adults can have their full shelter costs counted, and can name an alternate payee to shop for them. ODHS warns that its own calls come from 503-945-5722 and are often blocked as spam. SNAP Quality Control reviews are random and must be answered or benefits can stop. Stolen-benefit theft is flagged as rising, with an instruction to cancel the card immediately.
