Hawaii Foodbank: How to Get Food

Hawaii Foodbank says in its own words that you do not have to prove your income to get food. It is a regional food bank, so it supplies pantries rather than handing out groceries itself: below is how to find the one near you.

You do not have to prove you are poor
Anyone facing hunger. The official Food Assistance page states of the Ohana Produce Plus distributions: there are no income requirements, and anyone and everyone can receive food. It also says no matter who you are, where you are from or what you are going through. No proof of income, ID or address is listed. Separate federal programmes (TEFAP, senior food boxes, farmers market coupons) do have their own eligibility rules.

How do I actually get food from Hawaii Foodbank?

Hawaii Foodbank does not distribute from its warehouse to the public. Use the interactive map on hawaiifoodbank.org/get-help/food-assistance/ to find a pantry or an Ohana Produce Plus distribution on Oahu, or download the food assistance handouts for Oahu and Kauai. Many sites check you in through a free paperless system called Neighbor Connector that records basic information.

When is Hawaii Foodbank open?

Not published centrally. Each pantry and distribution has its own hours, shown on the official map and in the Oahu and Kauai resource guides.

Does Hawaii Foodbank cost anything?

Free. The page says the network provides free groceries, fresh produce and nutritious meals.

What do I need to bring?

Not stated on the Hawaii Foodbank page we read. Bring an ID and something with your address if you have them, and bags or a box for the food — but do not stay home for lack of paperwork; most pantries take you anyway.
