SNAP in New Mexico: How to Apply

New Mexicans with low income and limited resources. HCA asks who lives and eats in the household, how much money the household receives each month, what the household owns (property, bank accounts) and what it pays for (rent, utilities, child care). The federal government sets the guidelines and the benefit amount.

New Mexico does not publish an income table on the page we read. Do not use another state's numbers: they differ. Apply anyway — the state decides, and rent, utilities, childcare and medical costs are deducted before they compare.

HCA does not publish a document list up front: 'You will be asked to come in for an interview in about ten days. Your assigned worker will give you a list of things you need to provide.' Bring as much of the requested information as you can to the interview.

You are notified by letter within 30 days whether SNAP was approved, and you are called in for an interview in about ten days. The page does not use the word 'expedited' and gives no 7-day figure. If you disagree with the decision you can ask for a Fair Hearing.

The agency changed name: the old Human Services Department (hsd.state.nm.gov) is now the Health Care Authority (hca.nm.gov), so older links are stale. The application portal is YesNM (yes.nm.gov), a Salesforce site. No 2025 federal law change is mentioned on the page. This comes from an archived copy of the official page, so it may be out of date.
