How do I apply for SNAP in District of Columbia?
https://districtdirect.dc.gov (the District Direct website) or the District Direct mobile app - you can check whether you qualify, apply and renew without going to a Service Center. Paper: the "Integrated Application for Public Assistance Benefits" (English, Spanish, Amharic) from https://dhs.dc.gov/page/public-benefits, submitted in person at a service center, by fax to (202) 671-4400, or by mail to Department of Human Services, Economic Security Administration, Case Record Management Unit, P.O. Box 91560, Washington, DC 20090. Every application must be signed and dated.
Who qualifies for SNAP in District of Columbia?
Based on income, resources and household size, or on already receiving TANF (cash or non-cash) or SSI, which makes the household categorically eligible - most District residents applying for SNAP are. A household is everyone who lives together and buys and prepares meals together; spouses and most children under 22 are automatically in the same household even if they cook separately. Households must meet both a gross and a net monthly income limit; households with someone 60 or older or a person with a disability only need to meet the net limit. Where a resource limit applies it is $3,000, or $4,500 with a member 60+ or with a disability - but most applicants have no resource limit because of categorical eligibility.

The 200% column is the expanded categorical eligibility standard. (DC's own table mislabels the 200% column header as "Maximum Net Monthly Income (200% FPL)"; its footnote correctly calls it a gross standard.) These are the figures District of Columbia publishes itself — we do not copy them from the federal table, because several states set a higher limit than the federal one and Alaska and Hawaii have their own entirely.
What do I need to bring?
Not given as a checklist. Where relevant you must review the eligible immigration status list and complete the Citizenship Supplemental Form. Students proving an exemption need documents such as a financial aid or work-study award letter, pay stubs, an employer letter, a child's birth certificate or a health care provider's letter.
How long does SNAP take in District of Columbia?
Federal law gives states 30 days, and 7 days if you qualify as an emergency (expedited). This state does not confirm those figures on its own page. If you need food this week, a food pantry does not make you wait.

DC is not a state but administers SNAP itself.
